[dead] Bitword Oxide Kits Vol. 2 LiVE

Bitword Oxide Kits Vol. 2 LiVE | 728MB

As a composer, Oxide Kits Volume 2 will offer inspiration with percussive oddities, and musical noises, but it will also serve sound design needs as a stinger, and impact creation tool for film, television, and multimedia production. Playing a chord can often leave quite an impact. Mapped in industry standard formats, these kits are ready to be played, or further manipulated. Just a few envelope or pitch changes can lead to a whole new feel, and fit perfectly into your current project. With that in mind, a great deal of care was taken to make them useful as is, and what you hear in the audio demos is raw, unmastered output, created by using different kits from this collection.

Editorial: Where have the patches gone?

After discovering a ridiculously bloated sample download of sounds for just 1 single analog keyboard, I felt it necessary to share these thoughts with the community. Take this short writeup for what it is, an opinion, and no matter whether you agree or not, do NOT attack this writer!
--------

As I said, I found that excessively large sample library some 14 pages down (as of July 14, 2010) and what I don't understand is that anyone would really want to download such a gigantic dead weight of a sample library when there are so many recreations of the Junos on synth engines like Reaktor, SynthEdit or Max/SMP. Why not install Reaktor 5 instead, which, with its library of modules, macros and instruments eats up less than 1 GB and use the various incarnations of the Juno from there. As an added bonus you also get the ability to play umpteen other fantastic analog synths, samplers, granular synths and recreations of the great machines from the 1980s and 1990s.

When a library of old analog sounds from a single synth as simple as the Juno106 gets to be this humongous, something has gone very wrong. I think this is abundant evidence that people have lost their creative touch, not to mention their ability to discriminate between what is normal and what is stupid. That is my opinion of most of these huge sample uploads of electronic instruments anyway. The only exceptions I will make are sounds that cannot be recreated electronically. The basic waveforms of a Juno (all versions) are Sines, Squares, Triangles and Sawtooths. Those simple waveforms can be captured in less than 10 KB, yes, really! Use those waveforms in a wave table in Reaktor and the rest is tweaking filters and envelopes.

What happened to the creative touch? Instead of doing some work it seems that today's "musician" must have every nuance and variation in a sound recorded as a sample. Why? Are we so lazy (or inept) that we no longer are able to turn a knob or two on our VSTs? Where are the great sound patches that people used to create? This state of affairs is underscored quite dramatically by the relatively low ratings that Native Instruments Reaktor, Absynth and FM8 received in The 17 best VST plug-in synths in the world article (Thanks for the link, the-rippa) where they scored a measly 11th, 13th and 15th place respectively. Clearly this is proof that musicians today loathe having to program their synths and have become point-and-click artists instead, addicted to samples. Laziness rules supreme.
I am sorry to notice this, and I am sure others have too, but it really looks like the once great Audioz web site is slowly devolving into an ordinary sound sample trash dump. :(
