I'm posting (possibly out of line) as an open letter to the community. I appreciate all the posters on this site and the stuff that they post (even though I use a Mac and don't write hip-hop/dance music, so a lot of it isn't usable by me).
But I will no longer support posts that are only upped to Rapidshare. It's become ridiculous for free users to even try to use RS. Yes, I know the common response - "Buy an account". But here's the thing. I've been out of work for some time. I can barely afford my internet connection, much less pay a company for access to warez.
What does this mean for you? - well nothing really. I'm just one person and whether I patronize your uploads or not isn't going to change anything for you. But you should be aware that I'm not the only one who feels this way. If enough people start boycotting RS only uploads, it might just affect you. I've seen it mentioned on other posts on here that one person (at least) is threatening to report all posts as illegal that are posted only to RS. Don't know if they'll actually do it, but they might. Something else to be aware of. There are too many options for reasonable uploads that don't make the downloader wait for several minutes or for specific periods of the day to grab the stuff, to be confined only to RS.
Some people have said here that RS is always changing and this will change too - and maybe it will. But by that time, a lot of people like me will move on from the scene and not care as we won't need RS or any other upload site again. It's nice to have access to the newest bells and whistles of course, but remember, some of the greatest music of the last 50-60 years was recorded/created using the technological equivalent of stone knives and bear skins. If the newest things become to much of a pain to get, people will easily learn to do without.
So, I guess my final thought is that if the folks who post here want the scene to continue and want to have people interested in the stuff you post, you might want to consider either upping your links to a multi-upload site or to several sites at the same time. And to those who already provide alternate links to RS, you have my thanks.
